About Davis Seafood

Davis Seafood has been located at its current location since 1949, but our families have been commercial fisherman for many decades. Our family originally came to Sneads Ferry from Davis Shore, NC during the 1800's. The Davis' remained in Sneads Ferry, fishing for a living and raising their families.

In the 1940's Theron and Laura Lee Davis purchased Wheelers Point (our current location) and built a small bait and tackle store, “Davis' Place, Boats and Bait”. They sold fish, bait, drinks and snacks. Laura Lee also made homemade sandwiches to sell in the store. They rented small boats, known as skiffs, for one dollar a day for people to go fishing.

After the original store was badly damaged during a hurricane, it was demolished and replaced in 1972 by William “Buddy” Davis, son of Theron and Laura Lee Davis. Although Davis Seafood has undergone many renovations and additions, that building is currently in use as our primary facility today.

With Buddy shrimping on the “William Michael”, a 60 foot wooden trawler he had built in 1968, Davis Seafood was supplied with fresh shrimp and fish daily. Buddy's mother Laura Lee and Necia, Buddy' s wife, sold the fresh seafood to customers who wanted something fresh, local, and wild caught!

From late 1990's to present day Buddy and Necia's son Jody and wife Vickie took over business operations at Davis Seafood. Buddy, along with his two other sons, Billy and Stevie, and nephew Warren, are continuing the family tradition by commercial fishing providing fresh, local, wild caught seafood to Davis Seafood.

In addition to our waterfront location in Sneads Ferry, you can also find us at the Wrightsville Beach Farmers' Market and the Wilmington Riverfront Farmers' Market.Click the images below for more information.
